Stefan Engelmann - bass
The bass player Stefan Engelmann from Saarbrücken, who's one of the most popular bass players in Germany, discovered his love for jazz early in the Saarland youth jazzorchestra. He deepened this experience by participating in international workshops and working with lecturers like the norvegian bass player Arild Andersen, John Abercrombie and others.
Studies at the state conservatory of Luxemburg and a simultaneous four year classical upright bass training followed. For several years he appeared on national and international stages as the bass player for various musicals such as Hair or the Rocky Horror Show.
Despite his comprehensive work for the Saarland state theater as well as radio-, TV- and studio productions his main field is jazz. Beside working as a teacher and lecturer he is mainly an active musician working in various formations.
He was part of the Michael Sagmeister Trio for several years and could be heard with the Schmidt Brandt Quintett, the Martin Preiser Trio and since october 2000 with Helmut Eisel & Band on many stages in Germany.
